Does ChatGPT name your HVAC company? AI search visibility for home-services businesses

Short answer: When a homeowner asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI for "the best HVAC company in Tampa", the answer names a few businesses. Our $49 Snapshot runs those city-named questions, records whether you're named and who's named instead, and gives you the top fixes, usually your Google Business Profile, reviews, listings and service pages. PDF in 24 hours.

Why a good Google Maps ranking doesn't mean AI names you

Owners tell the same story: they asked ChatGPT for the best business like theirs in their own town, and it named three competitors. Others rank well in the map pack for a search like "emergency plumber" in their city, then ask ChatGPT the same thing and get a competitor.

The map pack and AI answers are separate systems. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI each pull from their own mix of sources, and OpenAI publishes no fixed formula for local recommendations. Answers also vary from one run to the next, so we test each question more than once rather than trusting a single answer.

The questions your customers ask AI

Why we name the city: "Near me" answers depend on where the person asking is. A test from our computer would show results for our location, not yours. So we put your city in the question, the way your customers' location would.

What the $49 Snapshot checks

We run 10 city-named buyer questions across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI (AI Overviews, or Gemini where Google doesn't show one). For each answer we record whether you're named, who's named instead and which sources get cited. Then we scan your site's AI readiness: crawler access, schema, llms.txt, your sitemap and crawlable text. You get a PDF with your top 5 fixes within 24 hours.

What usually gets fixed

These are the areas fixes typically fall into for home-services businesses. They aren't a promise of results.

Blocked AI crawlers are another common cause. See OAI-SearchBot and robots.txt.

What AI named for Tampa HVAC (public example scan)

Public example scan, Nov 4, 2026. We have no connection to the companies shown.

We asked three city-named questions on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI (Gemini, see the notes below):

  1. "Who is the best AC repair company in Tampa, FL?"
  2. "Recommend an HVAC company in Tampa for a new air conditioner installation."
  3. "Which Tampa HVAC companies offer 24/7 emergency AC service?"

Who AI named

Across 9 answers, the engines named 29 different Tampa HVAC businesses. Named most often: The Comfort Authority (4 of 9), then Gulf Coast Air Systems and Fontana Brothers (3 each). The company we scanned wasn't named in any of the 9 answers.

Where the answers came from

Gemini answered from Google Maps listings. ChatGPT and Perplexity drew on company websites and review sites such as Angi, Yelp and ConsumerAffairs. For a local business, that makes your Google Business Profile and reviews matter a lot. Both are in the fixes above.

A fix anyone can copy

The scanned site already had a 24/7 emergency page and city pages, but its homepage didn't link to them. If you have city or emergency-service pages, link them from your homepage so people and AI tools can find them.

"I haven't verified current reviews, licensing status, or installation availability, so these are starting recommendations rather than a current ranking."

ChatGPT, answering prompt 2

Notes: All engines were run while signed in, so answers may be personalized. Google Search showed a captcha, so the three Google prompts were run in Gemini instead of AI Overviews, and the report says so. AI answers change over time. This is one snapshot, not a ranking.

Plumbing, roofing and electrical too

The method is the same for plumbers, roofers and electricians. The questions change by trade and city, such as a roof replacement or an emergency electrician in your town. Read more about AI visibility audits for local businesses.

What we can't promise

No ranking or recommendation guarantees. Nobody can honestly promise them. AI answers change, and fixes take time to be picked up. If you'd rather do it yourself, compare audit vs DIY vs agency or start with the free AI-visibility check. You can also see our sample audit for the report format.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI tools does the Snapshot cover?

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI (AI Overviews, or Gemini where Google doesn't show one).

How fast do I get it?

A written PDF within 24 hours.

Why do you put my city in the question?

"Near me" answers depend on where the person asking is. Naming the city ("best HVAC company in Tampa") tests what your local customers see.

What will I need to fix? Do I need to write long blog posts?

Usually your Google Business Profile, reviews, directory listings and clear service and city pages. The Snapshot ranks your top 5. You don't need a pile of long blog posts.

Is there a sales call or do you need logins?

No. It's a written report using public data only.

Can you guarantee AI will recommend me?

No. Nobody can honestly promise that. We show where you stand and what to fix.

Does the $49 count toward the full audit?

Yes, if you upgrade within 14 days.
